  • As you're starting out, you should prioritize the upgrades that allows you to use the radios that you level up your characters from without having to use a battery on them. After that, you can focus on things that make life convenient like backpack upgrades, searching for items more efficiently, or gaining access to areas that you normally would not be allowed to visit on the playing field.
  • Even when you're all buffed out after some runs, you shouldn't expect to survive under sustained attacks from enemies. You have a dodge roll and you can climb over barriers faster than the zombies can. Don't let yourself get surrounded because there's no mercy period after taking a hit.
  • Using a gun will bring attention your way. There will be plenty of times where you do not want that to happen. Make use of melee weapons and hit-and-run tactics to take care of a group of zombies without too much trouble.
  • Personal preference here, but I do not recommend using the sledgehammer nor the baseball bat. Your character will not travel far at all and the swing needs to be timed better than other weapons so that you don't trade hits with the enemy. The weight is also something to consider. If you have nothing else, though, you may as well.
  • When dealing with zombies that have body armor, you have to use melee attacks in order to knock it off. They do not take any damage from anything until then (unless you use fire or explosives, and it depends in the case of the latter), so it could be in your best interest to use your bare hands to do that and then swap to your melee weapon to finish the job.
  • As time passes and as you take hits from zombies, your maximum HP will decrease while the infection takes root in your character's body. There are some serums that you can take to halt the spread for some time and they also give you a bit of healing on top of that. As chunks of your HP are overtaken, you will mutate and have some bonuses like increased melee damage at the cost of some stamina, have virtually no flinching, or dealing increased damage to bleeding enemies.
  • While you're hauling your things around, you have to mind the weight limit because if you are carrying too much, you will take penalties to your stamina usage as well as the rate in which it decreases over time. Goes without saying, but don't take what you don't need or plan to use.
  • The game saves when you enter a new area and also whenever you finish a run dead or alive. If something isn't going your way, you can just quit to menu and try the area again if you think you can do better.
