"* "Do the street missions, it's a great way to level up early in the game. They give +15 experience each time, and are generally very short and easy.
- During interrogation, you can back out of a lie accusation as long as you don't choose evidence to present. This can be handy just to see which direction Cole will take on a topic, which isn't always intuitively obvious.
- Using an intuition point to eliminate an answer will also pare down the possible evidence you can present in the 'lie' option.
- Don't get too caught up in getting everything 'right' (i.e. blowing an interrogation and quitting before a save). You won't fail, and even if there was significant evidence to be had, the game will give it to you another way. Sometimes the interactions when you fail are just as interesting as when you succeed.
- If you don't like the driving, you can press triangle (or whatever the 360 equivalent is) and have your partner drive. You'll still get the dialogue, but you'll warp to the location afterwards.
- Keep your eye out for newspapers -- they can seem like just another collectible, but they are crucial to the story.
- You'll know you've found all the clues in a scene if the music disappears (assuming you have that option on).
- Don't be afraid to use intuition points. You get more sporadically as you level & you can only stockpile 5 so don't hesitate to use one.
- Don't cheat/use guides either, it's way more satisfying.
- Truth and doubt were originally coax and force, and a fair number of Cole's reactions make more sense (or only make sense, in a few cases) if you assume that's what they still are.
- If you're going to do any of the collectibles, register your game at Rockstar's website. It's pretty much the only way to keep track of them.
- Once you hit level 20, you begin each case with 5 intuition points. Feel free to use them!
- Pausing the game, quitting, then reloading, usually starts you fairly close to your last interrogation if you're trying to get all the correct answers (which isn't necessary).
- Walking away from an interrogation or investigation & driving your car briefly usually causes the game to save, which can save you a lot of hassle. Nothing more frustrating than flubbing the last question in an interrogation and finding your reload point has you having to re-scour an entire crime scene for clues to get another shot at the interrogation, if 100% correct is your goal.
- Don't bother trying to spin out a fleeing suspect's vehicle. They all have insanely good handling and are driven by professional chase drivers apparently. Your partner may be able to shoot out their tires, but if all else fails, just stay on them and drive safe. They're always scripted to crash eventually.
- Especially early on, always go by the suspect's faces. Doesn't matter if the person seems like they have no reason to lie or you have no reason to doubt them, if they have shifty eyes, always doubt them (or lie if you have the evidence to prove it).
- Children are terrible interrogation subjects. Their default face is shifty.
