General

  • Chapters 1 and 2 of Deltarune are available for free on all platforms. Additionally, these use the same save data as the full version of the game, so you can play the first two chapters of the game for free before continuing your save with the full game. (this only applies to local data on a single PC/console)
  • The game features many similarities to Undertale, including many returning characters and mechanics, including the option to complete most encounters peacefully. While it is a separate universe, it is highly recommended to play Undertale first, as it will make the story much more impactful.
  • Unlike Undertale, Deltarune does not have a pacifist or genocide route, and choosing to kill or spare enemies has no major effect on the story.
  • While npcs are always worth interacting with, most flavor text from objects in the town doesn't change between chapters.
  • The game supplies you with plenty of healing items and money, so don't worry too much about running low on resources, and don't sell armor unless it's directly upgraded or you really need the money, as many of them are given other uses later in the game.
  • Every chapter has a secret boss. These are much harder than the final bosses of each chapter, and well worth the time for a player looking for a challenge, especially as the game hints at a special reward for defeating them all. This guide is a great resource for players struggling to find the bosses for chapters 1, 2, and 4 without any spoilers, in particular for chapter 2, as the steps required can be very unclear at times. As chapter 3 has many more steps and ways to miss the boss, it is recommended to use the dedicated guide instead. (more details in the chapter 3 section)
  • Every chapter has 1 secret collectable egg, which apart from some interesting flavor text, are entirely inconsequential. Collecting these usually involves repeatedly traveling between two specific rooms for a low chance to travel to a secret room instead. Feel free to ignore these.
  • Loading a completed chapter's save file will bring you to your last save point, which usually will be right before the final boss. You can use this to backtrack and find things you may have missed, without having to replay the entire chapter.

Chapter 1

  • Defending is always a great option to use in battles when you don't know what else to do, as it gives you extra money.
  • You can trade a repaired item to the top npc for the best healing item in the game. This is incredibly useful for the secret bosses, as you can talk to this npc to get a new one if you ever used or dropped one. (This can also be completed on later chapters as long as you have the required item)
  • When you come to a long room with a bell at the end, you can backtrack to the beginning and talk to an npc, who becomes a recurring character only if you talk to them here.
  • The secret boss will require you to do a bit of backtracking and exploration to unlock, but there is no fail state as long as it's done before the final boss.
  • Stand on the circle on the shore in the town to meet someone. This person also becomes a recurring character only if you talk to them in chapter 1.

Chapter 2

  • This chapter introduces the recruitment mechanic, making playing pacifist more rewarding. Don't worry, nothing you did in chapter 1 has any effect here, as you will always start with every chapter 1 recruit. There is always an npc or object before the final boss telling you when you’ve missed any, and there is usually only a need to grind encounters if you have been intentionally avoiding them.
  • This chapter also introduces merging items. Silver cards are extremely good this chapter, so getting 2 or 3 of them will pay off. DD burgers are also very good to have a small stock of, and will go a long way in a hard fight despite not healing as much as other items. All the other items are only really worth getting 1 of, so don't bother keeping items to make duplicates.
  • The secret boss has only one fail state in this chapter; when you're approached by a shady salesman, make sure you end the encounter peacefully. Finding this encounter can be difficult without a guide, please refer to this guide if needed, as avoiding spoilers here can be difficult.
  • This chapter has one save point after the final boss. If you want to be able to load the completed chapter save and still be before the final boss, make sure to not save and just complete the chapter.

Chapter 3

  • You can unequip your silver cards in this chapter, as their secondary effect will be of no use this entire chapter.
  • The machine in room "B" has 3 golds, these can be very useful, and it is worth the effort to get them all.
  • There is only one point in the story where all doors in room "A" are available at the same time, and progressing further will have them be permanently closed. This is your last chance to enter the left 2 doors, while the rightmost one will be available at school later.
  • Green monitors are interactable.
  • Reaching the secret boss in this chapter is much more involved than the others, and it is very easy to miss a step without a guide. Furthermore, it is very difficult to find a spoiler free guide, and most will immediately spoil the boss’s identity. Please consult this guide, and for minimal spoilers only read the next step after completing the current one. Be prepared to use all of your best healing items, this fight is especially difficult. (While the guide does not mention it, it should be noted that you will not get a “proper” encounter if it is your first time playing chapter 3. This is nothing to worry about, it just requires loading your completed chapter save again)

Chapter 4

  • Near the start of the chapter you are able to donate something to one of the houses in the town. Make sure to go to the school first if you choose to do this, as he won't appear there after the donation.
  • You'll want to be ready to use food this chapter, it will be convenient for some of the encounters.
  • The secret boss comes up earlier than you'd expect. Just make sure you backtrack and explore when you unlock the ability, and you won't miss it.
  • Try the first four notes of megalovania: $W $W W SE.
  • There is an extra minigame available by loading a completed chapter 4 save file. This will most likely also be accessible normally at the start of chapter 5.

Weird Route

  • The weird route is a secret alternate route starting in chapter 2. This should not be attempted before completing the game normally, as it changes the game events in major ways, including skipping some rooms, dialogue, encounters, and some very important scenes entirely. If you do this route without full knowledge of what happens normally in the chapter you are playing, you will be lost. Additionally, this route is comparable to the genocide route of Undertale, and players with very strong connections to these characters may regret going down this path.
  • The route has many spoilers, but this guide is as spoiler free as possible. For the best experience, follow this guide very closely, only reading the next part after completing the steps before.
  • Once the route is started, it is impossible to abort for the rest of the chapter.
  • The route does not continue in chapter 3, and only has a couple unique lines of dialogue; you will have to play through this chapter as normal to continue the route in chapter 4.
  • Continuing the route in chapter 4 is much more simple than in chapter 2, but still may take a couple tries to get right, so make sure you save before going inside. When given the option to “proceed” with the route, it'll require a little trick; keep a close eye on your location, it will be very obvious when you've done it correctly. Like in chapter 2, it will again be impossible to abort the route for the rest of the chapter.
  • After going to the dark world in chapter 4, there is only one notable difference in the weird route, where you are given the option to think about the person from earlier. This is recommended, but not required. If you missed it, you can see the interaction here (major weird route spoilers)
