Star Trucker

  • Try to have a few air filters on hand at all times. Always try to look for them at a discounted price, same goes with batteries. You can't recharge batteries either (which is silly, you should be able to at stations imo), and once they're gone just find a place where the price for them is high and sell them for a bit of cash. Try to keep your filters from winding down to nothing, too - the battery consumption in your O2 systems is affected by the quality of the filters. So if you have a surplus of batteries, that's not too bad, but if not...
  • Try to have a few boxes in your ship to store things in, lest items get damaged when you hit something, or when things float as you attempt to fix your grav system (also know that when you're docked, gravity is provided by docking clamps so this is the ideal time to switch out the circuit board or battery for this system). Docking actually provides power to all systems, except for oxygen for some reason.
  • Completing missions for people gives you access to better tech, completing main missions gives you more systems to travel to, increasing potential profits.
  • Try to stick to the lanes when possible, otherwise be prepared to dodge debris and fix leaks. Lanes do have speed limits though, so be careful.
  • However, when not on lanes, you can find scrap, which is just some stuff floating around that you can park next to and take into your truck. This can be anything from regular merch to contraband to even equipment like batteries.
  • Oh, if you want to save a bit of fuel you can turn off the driving assist. This implements newtonian physics, which means you won't stop moving until you thrust backwards. It also means that if you try to turn, you're basically going to start drifting. It's fine to use when you've got a decently straight route to take, anything more complex and things get a little dicey.
  • Shutting off all nonessential lights can save you a fair bit of power in the long run.
  • When you have to switch out power cells without being docked, turn off the respective fuse first, otherwise things might get damaged from the power surge
  • When you're collecting salvage, you can only bring one item at a time through the airlock. In order to speed things up, you can bring a box outside and use it to bring all the smaller items inside at once
  • You can deactivate the automatic inertial dampening with the big triangular button on the dash. If you do that, you will just keep on coasting on your current course at the same speed. That can save you a bunch of fuel on long runs.
