- This game has been released many times, and each has significant differences, the first release has terrible drop rates and a gamebreaking memory leak bug, the longer you play it the slower it will become, generally not advised to play this one, the second release Lingering Summer Heat comes with a sizable postgame expansion and many bugfixes and new animations, the third release, Weekend, added a minimap, easy mode toggle, massive increase in droprates and blue magic Learning rates for Satori, replayable final boss so a skill is no longer permanently missable, and lighter requirements for equipment crafting, finally the PSVita/Steam/Switch/PS4 release called Touhou Soujinengi V removes the minimap... but is now in 16:9 ratio, same improvements as Weekend, adds another extra character and extra dungeon, level requirement for skills are now less than before, and characters now have a whole separate skill section to bring with them in battle, this makes it the easiest and most accessible version of the 4
- Early on enemy defense is low enough that even characters that are designed to be more support oriented can turn the tides with their damage skills, later on you will need dedicated damage dealers to not be stuck dealing 0 damage to common enemies.
- Enemy status resistance is a bit messy, first they can have a straight up % resistance from 0% to 100%, secondly they have their RES stat that helps them resist it if the first check passes, then if one status is inflicted it will reduce the following attempts at infliction massively, so don't expect enemies to get the same status effect in a battle more than 2 or 3 times in a battle.
- If you still want to play with status effects, get as much IND as you can, you will need it.
- You can beat the main game without leveling every character, but the split dungeons will be a massive pain, try to not play favorites too much.
- Enemies don't respawn over time, or when entering maps and exiting, but when you touch a save point around 5-10 times enemies should have mostly respawned.
- There is a big xp penalty for killing enemies lower level than you, but you still get easy Ability Points from them.
- You can only have one of each equipment, but if one is a material for crafting a higher tier one, you can craft it then obtain the lower tier item again from the enemy that drops it.
- Some items have conjoined resistances, Restrict = Confusion Blind and Silence, Disable = Sleep Paralysis and Petrify, Stun = Burn Freeze Shock and Daze
- If a weapon says Additional X Element Damage, it only applies to basic attacks, it's not a global buff to their skills.
- If you see a Mind Flayer enemy type, focus them ASAP, their paralysis spam is ridiculous.
- Formations have a very big impact in battle but also can debuff you, the game doesn't tell you the numbers but they can get really high, for example Hinotori Skydance makes the center character get hit 75% of the time and every other character only around 6%, or Moriya destruction can give 30% atk buff if you set it up correctly.
- Shield are very wonky, they only have a chance of working, only works on certain elements of attacks, and when they do they only raise defense, plus they don't work when wielding two handed weapons or before/after casting a magical spell, but the passive effects such as -30% Fire Damage is always applied, also if they use the Defend command, they can block while wielding two handed weapons.
- You can only have up to 5 buffs/debuffs at the same time, and a buff will cancel a debuff and vice versa, but only Byakuren when invested in her buffs skill tree can Overwrite a debuff with a buff.
- If a 6th buff is added to a character, the first one that she had will be removed, not the one with the least remaining duration specifically.
