In case it's not clear, this happens at the end of every fight, not only when you speak to a trader. You'll see, after a fight, that some loot automatically flies towards your character and you're told how much money it was worth.
* Throughout the game you meet "heroes", and once you've completed their quest-line one of your characters will unlock their class to use in battle. Your other characters learn this class by fighting alongside it—either when the hero is in your party, or when another character has the class equipped. What the game does not tell you is that if you're over-levelled by a certain amount, enemies will no longer give you the hidden progress towards unlocking that class for other characters.
