Deus Ex: Invisible War

From Before I Play

  • The game is something of a technical mess, so for the PC version it's strongly recommended to consult the game's page on the PC Gaming Wiki if and when issues arise. At minimum you'll probably want to install the fan-made Visible Upgrade linked there for better compatibility.
  • Make hard saves often and in multiple slots. One exception is that due to a possible reoccurring crash, it's safest to avoid manual saving during the prologue section (until you exit to Seattle).
  • Unlike in the original Deus Ex, the "Realistic" difficulty increases damage taken not only by yourself (by 75% compared to Normal) but also by enemies (by 50% compared to Normal) which is largely a player advantage.
  • The game doesn't make any real distinction between playing lethally and non-lethally. Working for different factions also doesn't lock you out of any endings.
  • You can change your installed biomods to a different one in the same slot, though this resets the level to 1 and your spent canisters aren't refunded. You can quite easily find far more biomods than you need to max out every slot, with the black market versions being more rare than the standard ones.
  • Once you enter the ice level, you'll basically never need to hack a computer again which makes it safe to replace the Neural Interface biomod if you have it.
  • In addition to adding EMP damage and bot scrambling to melee attacks at higher levels, the Electrostatic Discharge biomod allows you disable security lasers with your melee attack by hitting the beams' origin points.
