Just Cause 4

- Instead of taking down locations bit by bit, you will be working with the Army of Chaos (this game's rebel army) to push frontlines in order to spread their influence. This is done by completing a mission and then sending some forces from an adjacent territory. Depending on circumstances, you could get away with doing that for no cost or even earn some more forces.
- The upgrade system this time is tied to three characters: Luis for the air lifter (a balloon), Javi for the retractor, and Garland for the booster. You'll have to do a bit of the plot to get all three open, but once you do, you can customize your grappling hook as needed and you will have three different setup slots that you can switch on the fly. Additionally, you have an accelerator for your grappling hook wherever you're using either the parachute or the wingsuit and you can use that right away.
- In order to get more upgrades, you'll have to complete challenges that are on the field as well as surprise missions that can occur while you're busy with something else. The stuff for the booster will probably be maxed out first on account of how many challenges there are in the playing area and how simple a lot of them are to complete.
- Keep in mind that having the Army of Chaos move into a territory does not automatically mean that the Black Hand forces will not be present. Mind what you're doing and where you do it.
- If you want to break away from a pursuit, it's best to do what they can't. If you're being chased on the ground, retreat into the mountains. If you're in a helicopter, just jump out and wingsuit to lower ground. Unlike with Just Cause 3, you cannot take down all enemies and expect to have an all clear because there is most definitely going to be one more coming your way and starting the alert all over again.
- The limit for multiple tethers at once is 10. Items that can be destroyed can be brought down quite easily even with just one or two, so feel free to experiment however you like if it means not opening fire and giving away your position immediately.
- For most stunt challenges that ask for a specific vehicle, you can find it somewhere nearby. You might have to get clever if it's in an inconvenient spot, but they're all possible to do.
- As there are no more grenades for you to use (the enemies still have some, though), some guns come with a secondary fire that includes grenades. An assault rifle can have explosive ones while a shotgun can have concussion rounds. There's plenty of other guns with a secondary fire and you ought to try them out!
- The fast travel system unlocks early on and it also handles both your weapon drops and your vehicle deliveries. You start with a pair of pilots who are on cooldowns whenever you use their services, but you'll be getting plenty more and your eventual skills with travelling using your tools will hopefully cut down on your need for fast travel so you're not as reliant on it and thus leave your pilots open for the other two services.
- As far as I can tell, as long as you're in the "caution" stage for a pursuit, you can use the fast travel to make a clean getaway.
- If the Black Hand forces see you using one of their vehicles, most likely they will open fire on you, so watch out.
- When a challenge says "use the wingsuit through all the rings", what it really means is that all the game cares about is that you are currently using the wingsuit to get through those rings. Keep in mind that going through any of them starts that challenge, so if the marker is in the middle of a trio of them, you can just start from one side and fly right through instead of doing something ridiculous like fly through two and immediately turn yourself around to get the third before time's up.
Dare Devils of Destruction DLC
- Whenever your car is about to explode, you can time it right so that you can hop out just before the big boom and get yourself a new car using the reset button. If you just stay in there and die, you will most likely lose your score multiplier and you also lose 5k points if it's a survival event.
- In terms of weapons, the machine gun is very handy for saving combos, but the wind gun is king at making it a guarantee for an obstacle to blow up. If it's a run event, the grenade launcher is good as long as you keep ahead of other drivers.
- There is a collectable in the form of holographic tigers. The good thing about them is that you only have to pick them up once and they stay unlocked even if you fail or quit out of an event. Getting them all gives you a lovely car.
Los Demonios DLC
- The crossbow you get will one-shot all common DLC enemies and these enemies also drop a bunch of bolts. A handy way of getting them quickly is to grapple onto your target and bolt them so that Rico kicks them while also getting the ammo refill, which is also good because the reload speed is fast enough that you can easily do it again before you touch the ground.
- Bring a rocket launcher with you to deal with tanks because they will shell you to death while you're busy with other things.
- Demons can eventually activate a suicide attack. You'll know when this happens because the UI will point it out if they're off-camera when they start it and they also glow blue for a few seconds before they rush you. Do not ignore them.
Danger Rising DLC
- This one unlocks fairly early, but the story is kinda sorta meant as an epilogue to the main game. Don't let that stop you because the weapons you get here are actually quite ridiculous.
- This DLC also gives you a hoverboard. While it's active, you will take zero fall damage and you also can save yourself from drowning if you fall real deep into a body of water.
- The elite enemies in this will have the ability to break free from your grapple within half a second. You should set an anchor point first and then hit them so that you can instantly trigger it and score some damage.
- Something else that you can do with them that I assume is unintentional is that you can hook onto them anyway (but making sure that you are not reeling in to kick them) and proceed to shoot them while they're locked into the animation to pull off your hook. If you time this correctly, you can stunlock the elites with little trouble.
- If you're not constantly maintaining speed while on the hoverboard, you'll eventually slow down and Rico will automatically get off if you're basically at a total stop. You can go from the board to the parachute to the wingsuit and back to the board if you're traveling across large stretches of water and you're not wanting to use a boat for some reason.
