- Most Hawaii side content becomes available in chapter 2, while the pirate stuff unlocks more gradually with the last main crew member showing up early chapter 4. Try and restrain yourself from doing everything until you get the grappling hook at least.
- Don't use cheat items at the gambling tables in the Madlantis bar district. Like Gaiden there is a high stakes casino, which becomes available midway through the story and offers much better payouts.
- You can buy an equippable item from the Dragon Kart minigame that increases the rate at which you gain reputation. Get this as early as you can and keep it on forever; the last few upgrades cost upwards of 100,000 pirate points per level.
- There's only one Heat gauge, unlike previous action-combat games in the series, and no passive benefit to holding onto it. Use Heat actions liberally and frequently.
- Support crew like Noah only gain experience when you actually use their skills. If your boarding squad is too powerful they will often wipe out the entire enemy team before you get to activate a skill.
- Most naval battles can be ended quickly by beelining for the flagship and immediately boarding it.
- Keep your best crewmates on the cannons instead of the boarding squad.
- The Minato Girls sub-story chain ends in a very long sequence of cringe-comedy cutscenes.
