* Crafting/upgrading 8 of a weapon will prompt Utsushi to give you a switch skill for it after your next quest. He kinda words it like it's because you used that weapon type a lot, but it's not. The rest of the switch skills are from village/hub progression.
* The cheapest/easiest to upgrade of a weapon line is usually the bone and ore ones. You can make one of each and upgrade them both alongside each other super easy until you hit 8 total buy/upgrades.
