- Spells can be cast multiple times on the same unit. This means that you can buff units hard if you stack them up. This also works for the essence generation bonus spell.
- Use your spells, all the time! Especially against non-commanded armies that can't cast spells. Using magic instead of units reduces losses, and you don't get anything for leaving mana on the table.
- Ranged units that reload (cannons, musketeers, etc) only stop to do so at the end of their turn. Therefore casting +attacks spells on them allows for rapid fire.
- Essence is gathered at the start of each unit's turn, and is a "per stack" generation. It's a good idea to always have all your unit slots filled, even if you throw a single unit in there that will just sit at the back making essence.
- Having multiple marketplaces will give better prices on resources.
- Like HOMM, you should almost never just be sitting around. A huge amount of your resources come from picking up things off the field, and many of the structure locations will regenerate their bonuses over time.
- In the campaign it is usually a good idea to powerlevel the wielder you start with, as they are the ones that will stay with you through the future missions. The extras that you pick up are good for grabbing loot and running units back and forth. Some campaigns mix up the "player" commander more, but in those cases there seems to be a large XP multiplier to compensate.
